Locus: Dreadful Futures is a supplemental advice and guidance document for the Personal Horror ttrpg Locus.
This 84 page document contains a multitude of information and thoughts about how Locus can be adapted to, and adapted by the genre of Science Fiction.
The book contains the following chapters:
Chapter 1: Horror in the Future covers an introduction to sci-fi as a genre.
Chapter 2: The Normal World discusses worldbuilding—establishing a Locus setting with sci-fi elements, while avoiding potential pitfalls. It also covers genre-specific considerations for Characters, Foils, and Items.
Chapter 3: Science Fiction Loci will take you through ways to bring the trappings of sci-fi into the design of a Malus Locus.
Chapter 4: Monsters will help you populate your Malus Locus with genre-appropriate sinister denizens.
Chapter 5: Building a Malus Locus walks you through the creation of an example Malus Locus.
Locus: Dreadful futures explores not only the way that game of Locus can be adapted to a Science Fiction setting, but also elements of the creator's design process when developing their stories for the game, and also some general thoughts and musings on how Science Fiction and Horror intersect as genres.
